A proper sequel to the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater franchise, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5, will be coming out later this year. For real.

According to a report by Game Informer, the next entry into the series will go back to its Pro Skater roots, with the precision controls seeing series-first additions of new power-ups and, strangely enough, the ability to shoot projectiles in some instances.

The game will include include Nyjah Huston, Aaron Homoki, Ishod Wair, Riley Hawk, Lizzie Armanto, Chris Cole, David Gonzalez, Leticia Bufoni, and Andrew Reynolds, according to the report.

Tony Hawk's Shred Session, a mobile Tony Hawk game, was put on indefinite hold back in November. To soothe the sting, Tony Hawk tweeted out that he was working on a console game with Activision slated for 2015.

At the beginning of April, Chef Joe Youkhan posted a photo on Instagram for an event Youkhan was catering for Hawk, with a screen in the background showing a great big, impossible to miss Tony Hawk 5 logo.

The game will hit PS4 and Xbox One first, with PS3 and Xbox 360 versions following later.

If it's anything like the first and 2nd installment of THPS, then I'm sold here! The newer ones sucked badly, never gotten into them.

Or was it just the awesome soundtracks from the first two that made me stick to the game?

THPS 2 was the best skating game EVER! If they literally just remade that game I would pay for it...
blaaislaai you are 100% correct, the first 2 were fantastic, but they dropped the ball big time from there on... I could never put my finger on what went wrong but they just severely sucked...

This:

Many many hours of fun was had with this blaring in the background, while my skater got a mouthful of asphalt over and over again. I loved THPS 2 and I agree with everyone else here.

Don't know any of those skaters being included, back when we used to play THPS on PS1 it felt like I knew all of them, maybe just because they became so familiar

I know what you mean, But im pretty sure I had no clue who most of them were before playing the game to death... Also tho, back then I was trying to be a "skateboarder" so I was interested in it all... Have no clue who is who these days, but I would still play the game, especially if its as good as THPS 2...

I loved the THPS games actually have all of them on disk still somewhere. But does the man even still skate and who will they include in this game and is Skateboarding still such a big sport? i haven't seen any skating on TV in a very long while now.

I landed up with an aching hand on the WASD cluster when I first got THPS2 on the PC. It hurt so much but I just kept on playing. Haven't really had an interest in skating games before then or since but PS2 was just so much fun!

I think it has lost a lot of its previous popularity... In the article above it mentions a few of the skaters

Maybe it's just me but it feels like the age of the "famous skaters" is sorta over

Definitely keen for the game though

I loved 3 and 4 as well actually, the addition of reverts out of the half-pipe gave you more options in raking up a massive combo. The Airport level in 3 and the Alcatraz level in 4 are legendary in my view.

Surprised that the PS3 X360 are still being supported.

Been crying recently at how these systems are being phased out of existence
