Troubleshoot problem?

I think i may have figured this out but want to make double sure :)

When overclocking i understand what im doing and understand i am outputting huge amounts of power.

Now my case:

I get my cpu to 5GHz and run benches etc and it is perfect.

Go to oc my gpu while at 5GHz cpu i try get to 900MHz and pc just dies (literally dies no bsod nothing)

Reset my cpu clock to about 4GHz and get gpu to 900MHz and runs perfectly.

Note: its a 700watt el_cheapo psu.

Any comments?

Note: its a 700watt el_cheapo psu. <----Burn it with fire and then get a proper power supply.

Power supplies are one of the most important core components of a pc especially one that is heavily overclocked.
Sell your GTX580, buy a 7950 or a GTX670, then get yourself a decent quality 650W psu and you'll be sorted.

The 580 is a strong card but its not efficient, it draws way to much power and is considered a dinosaur now because of its huge power draw and heat. A overclocked 7870 can crush a GTX580 and uses half the power and produces much less heat.

I have actually never looked at it that way. Get a more efficient gpu that is more powerful. The 580 has seen its days, done its job now it is time to move on..

What im thinking now is selling that gpu and sli or xfire 2 cards so i can see major differences.

I can run my cpu at 4.5GHz stable 24/7
Think it will still bottleneck dual gpu setup?

Another problem arises now... need to watercool that 2nd card.. the expenses never stop :(

Will do some more research tomorrow
