I installed Patch 4 and the Titan pack during the weekend.

Mixed bag of results here.

First up the revised menu system works much better, scrolls through pages quicker, and looks better with a nice Carbon Fibre/grayscale feel to it. Also now under video options is a VAST array of settings you can configure.

But I do have 2 issues.

1. While they said that they increased performance across the board, sometimes by leaps and bounds, erm, I am encountering quite the opposite.

EVERY single map I tested using the same settings before and after the patch, ran up to 15FPS slower. 15FPS to me, is alot. In no instance whatsoever did I recall any FPS, Min max or AVG, increase.

Also, I have a very noticible input lag, no matther what I set the sensitivity/resolution to. Even in windows If i change the frames to render ahead, wich can usually lead to this in the Nvidia controlpanel/Rivatuner, makes no difference.

Other than that the Ai has defenitely been revamped as they said. I usually played against ADEPT bots cause its just enough of a challenge not to be a walkover.

Now I am struggling with them, wether its the input lag, I dunno, but they seem a bit smarter, specially at using certain weapons and their alt-fires. Titan Mode is awesome, and definitely adds a bit of suspence to the game as you constantly have to run away from 30foot behemoths while dodging their beserker Rockets.

The new maps are also surprisingly good and very much like the older style UT2004/2003 maps. I only had about 20 minutes to test this, so that's about all I can report for now.

Wether it was worth the wait, and worth the 1.3 gig download remains to be seen till my next lan.

Don't go changing stuff in the nvidia control panel, can only make things worse.

What graphics card, what drivers?
What fps are you aiming for, 60 or 90?
1. Try turning off dynamic shadows
2. Try turning off one thread lag
3. Turn of VSync, use framerate smoothing rather or turn both off (having VSync on causes input lag).

As a last result if performance really bad disable this
[Engine.ISVHacks]
bInitializeShadersOnDemand=False
in you UTEngine.ini in the My Games folder.

To view your fps and input lag during game type in stat fps in console.
UT3 Black is an extremely tweakable game so just mess around with the advanced video tab. There's no way you could of used the same settings as 1.3 since there's a lot graphics options in 2.0 that's brand new.

Been playing the game online for the last few days. It's totally worth it.

Did all the above, apart from the ini stuff.

Yeah Alot of the options are new, but my rig should still be handling this game with a smile.

Running a GTX260 Black Edition, 4 GIG OCZ Ram, Core 2 Duo @ 4.0GHZ.

I did another installation of UT3, to give you an example.

Map: Shangrila, UT3 Patch 3 1680x1050, All options MAX 4xAA, 10 Bots

Min FPS: 41 Avg FPS: 58 Max FPS: 101

Shangrila, UT3 Patch 4 + Titan Pack. 1680x1050, all options Max, motion blur off 4xAA 10 bots

Min FPS 13 (that's a 30FPS drop) Avg FPS (25 that's a 33 FPS drop) MAX FPS 60 (that's a 50FPS drop on max)

Don't go changing stuff in the nvidia control panel, can only make things worse.

Only if you don't know what you are doing. ;)

I was until a while ago an active member on the Systemshock Overclocking league, with my previous setup I held number 7 spot in 3dmark 06, 4th spot in Super Pi and 5th spot in Aquamark for quite some time, so I know my way around the backends of the Nvidia software, Riva Tuner and the likes.

Hence me complaining about the performance drop on my rig, cause I tried everything, under and overclocking, game settings, drivers, beta drivers, the usual stuff.

I've been doing alot of reading on the Epic forums and on Xtremesystems and ALOT of vista users are complaining about this.

And I am talking users with more than adequate rigs.

BababooeyHTJ
My [email protected] with a gtx285 drops around 40fps
And he does not mean drops TO 40, he means DROPS BY

No, Ive been trying anything for almost a week now and I can't figure what happens. changing resolution and video settings have almost 0 impact. I tried older nvidia drivers... nada.

Last week a upgraded my 8800gt for a gtx285 thinking that would fix this but no. Thats why I asked on a few differents forums, I didnt want to buy again something new that would not improve anything.

Uber retarded.

delete your UTEngine.ini and start game so that it creates a new one.
Turn off Framerate smoothing and VSync (to get rid of fps cap)but keep everything else as is.

Now start game and see if you get 90+ fps. If you don't set everything to it's lowest settings possible. If the performance is still bad.

There's a 90% chance of
bInitializeShadersOnDemand being the culprit. Think I had the same problem once. Another way of checking it is to Alt Tab for a few minutes then going back in the game. You fps should drop to the 10's...

esit: I would stick to the 182.06 drivers. The new ones are crap.

I've heard that the 182.06 are sharp, I'll do a rollback tonight and check.

Shot for all the input!
