upgrading phone

So i'm upgrading my phone tomorrow and i've chosen 2 phones

the blackberry z10 and nokia lumia 920

can't decide which one.

i've looked at the galaxy s3, nice phone but not for me and apple is a no go, for some reason they just stop working around me. no clue why, take them away the work again.

Out of those BB if you must, but I'd really reconsider the s3 & iphone.

Both of those options are kinda iffy. The nokia interface is awkward & counterintuitive & their marketplace is weak. Also...needs a microsoft live account...ugh.

BB is kinda pointless without the high quality physical keyboard imo.

It's funny how the phones you're looking at are both from companies that are in make or break situations. Blackberry more than Nokia imho. But if you're set on nothing android or apple I'd seriously go with the Nokia. From what I've been hearing the new Windows Phone 8 is pretty impressive.

Personally I'm still deciding between an HTC One, Sony Xperia Z or the Samsung Galaxy S4....... tough choices......

The HTC One X+ would be my preference, but there is actually still no word when it will come to SA... Or I've heard something about Q3. It is available for import, but not from the cellular providers.
The Galaxy S3 is a decent phone, but I would have liked the improved performance from the One X+, but I wasn't willing to wait another 6 months to get it on contract.

The Nokia seems like a decent phone though... It's camera capabilities looks awesome. It was a tough choice for me between the 920 and Android. I ultimately decided on Android because my tablet has it installed so I already knew what apps I'll use and everything.
I've never been a Blackberry fan though, so if the Windows issues have been cleared up, I'd go for the Nokia. There is a thread somewhere on MyBB regarding the Nokia so they'll probably be able to tell you if the reboot issues have been dealt with already.

Personally, I'd go for an Android phone. As Toxin mentioned, can you wait for the new HTC One to arrive, or the Sony Xperia Z, or even the Galaxy S4?

All of those phones will trounce the Nokia and BlackBerry (and the iPhone 5 if you ask me; I don't wear Apple-tinted glasses).

Both the Nokia Lumia 920 and BB Z10 are decent devices - I've handled both in the office.

Still, I'm an android fan and the app market is only matched by Apple, and that's where you'll get the most joy from your phone (IMO).

The other deciding factor is contracts and pricing. The local market is in a bit of a spin at the moment with all the new contracts around BB10 and data prices dropping seemingly by the week as operators try to out-manoeuvre each other. Perhaps another reason to wait until the dust settles then look at the new devices coming.

New devices can also mean older ones drop in price a bit, if you are looking to save.

Out of the 2 go for the bb. If you don't like it you'd prob get a better swap deal out of that vs the Nokia which lets face it is failing here in sa as consumers flock to droid or ios devices.

I'd leave those two and go for the Xperia Z if I was you. I've got the Xperia T myself (couldn't wait for Z) and I am loving it. Best phone I've ever had.

well choice was made via my wallet :p

nokia lumia 820 on mtn anytime 200. includes (pathetic i know...) 150 mb data bundle and all the normal stuff for R350 a month

Nah man, your wallet is what matters at the end of the day. I'm lucky that I'm only upgrading in Nov. So I get a better understanding of what I'm getting. Also the prices would have dropped by then. As long as it can make calls, whatsapp(sms) and browse the internet, that's all you really need. :)

first impressions thus far. win phone 8 is a marvel of a os. fast and very responsive.

i have used android quite a bit on my moms galaxy tab 2 10.1 and WP8 is ver close to it so far from what i saw.

already managed to find all the apps i used on my blackberry on the store so i'm very chuffed with that.

all in all very happy so far.

will make some posts as the time ticks along with goods and bads

listen to James and Toxin, they be smart people :p

I've been due for an upgrade for a while now, been waiting for the HTC One X+, but now I'm waiting for the HTC One! :D

The One is apparently expected to be available here in April, which I hope they stick to cause thats also when my contract expires

day 1.

battery life is already leaps beyond the black berry. the browser is fast and the touch screen itself is nice and responsive so very little hassle in selecting something

day 2

righto so today the phone saw more use

the sound from the hands free kit is great.

not much more to say really other than i love the phone

now just to find a nice pouch

You made the better choice, I still say that on Android you can have a Windows Phone interface, even iPhone or BB, but the other phones cannot imitate an Android. Customization is key imho.
