Vodacom BIS

Hey people, I need some advice. I recently got a blackberry specially for the BIS, but so far I have been extremely disappointed. Throttled download speeds, constant web page time-outs , when a website does load, it takes a fu**load of time (even on a 3G hotspot, mind you). It was actually a downgrade from my Nokia (internet speed wise) which had 3.5G and the download speeds exceeded 2mb at times (but when the bill comes at the end of the month, it's cheaper to pay for a 10mbps line).

Now my question is : should I ditch the vodacom bastards (perfectly understandable though, 1.2 mil blackberry users and only 1Gbps bandwidth allocation) and go over to another network provider? And if so, who would you suggest? I'm currently looking at 8ta, since their number of subscribers is still small and they don't have BIS limitations.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Please note, white trololol text under my post :)

Free internet is a nice selling point, but then most people end up not using even the R60 they pay for BIS worth of internet.

I would troll you about Blackberry, but I that wouldn't be nice, now would it? :)

I used to have a Blackberry on Vodacom BIS and it was always terrible. That was the main reason that I ditched the phone. I think that they are the leaders in SA though, as far as that goes. But perhaps there is someone on the forum with more experience on other networks that are most qualified to give you an answer.

Don't want to sound like a troll but DON'T GO 8.ta. Believe me I'm talking from experience, there blackberry internet service is terrible

On the 31 of august I renewed my BIS (I'm with 8.ta) with no problems, on the 3rd of september a little after I wake up I tried to go on the web but to no avail, so I phoned 8ta For the 1st time
"Sorry Sir But It Looks Like Your BIS Has Expired" I said WHAT!?! I renewed it 3 days before that and got the SMS to prove it and they didn't have a solotion
Called the next the then they said it was a technical found on there side and they asked me to log a case and it should be cleared up in a few hours. 2 Days Later I called to find out wtf was going on with the case they said that they where going to add a note stating that the matter is urgent and hung up
Next day I phoned again just so they could tell me the FOOL from the previous day didn't add a note. He Closed the frikken case so now I had to log another 1 and wait again, A week goes by with me phoning none stop and nothing happends. Then finally I spoke to a guy from the call center again and he finally got my case fixed and my BIS was back

True story...

I can't agree more! I mad the mistake and can only upgrade in about a year's time...f*****g blackberries suck! don't EVER get one if you're thinking about it!

I Am 3rd in Line at that party!

Decided to Buy a HTC desire C come month-end :), On MTN Or CellC that is. I'm done with 8.ta

Hope it is not too late for you to see this.

I love HTC and im a massive fan of htc phones. on my 7th HTC phone now over the last 7 years.

THe Desire range has HUGE problems.. THere was a old batch ( massive problems ) new batch no problems.

I would reccomend you get a HTC ONE S as an entry level. I have a Desire HD at home that had given me a lot of hassles.. Look htcs returns and repairs was amazing but it still came down to me having to sit without a phone for a week or 2 when it got repaired, Worked on the 3rd repair and is still going strong ( Desire HD )

Ok now I understand where all the blackberry hate is coming from...these phones suck. Even the 9900 sucks .Don't know why they are so popular.

@Cranky

I had an HTC a few years ago, not a very big fan. I'm thinking more Xperia S for a future upgrade. And those motorola Razr's look veryyyy sexy.

Try the new One range from HTC and you will very quickly change your mind. GF has a S3 and i will take the new one X over her S3 any day.

Why?

My brother had an HTC a few years ago and it was terrible, slow and buggy. Besides that incidence, I don't know anything about HTC's.

On another note, I can't wait for my last 8 months at Vodacom with a Blackberry to be over! Moving to Cell C and getting myself a proper phone!

THe samsung S3 is the fastest and best phone on the market as its market rating proved already.

MY GF has one and i had the option of getting one. I was quite fed up with HTC after my Desire kept crashing and was just about to move over to a new brand ( in this case samsung ) I was given a HTC loan phone a HTC one S . this phone is about 10% better than the S2 and is an entry level one range . So dualcore 1Gb ram here we go . The functionality on the phone is mind blowing. The whole thing has been customized so that your menu button ( very important on android phones ) is always clsoe to your thumb. ( right hand top side of the phone ) that makes handling your phone with one hand becomes a breeze. ITs slimmer than the S3 ( Im quite a big guy at 1.9+m and my hands cant operate it easily without juggeling it around ) THe one S was exceptional and to think that the one X has double the amount of specs on it. IT is an obvious choice, I used the phone for 3 months and not once had a problem.

So for me my trust was won back . I went from HATING HTC to falling in love all over again , I had a samsung fan ( friend of mine ) check it out and he was also mighty impressed ( this was to make sure i dont have battered wife syndrome )

So yeah .. HTC for me.
