Why ?

Kids at school call you names?

That super hot girl ignoring you?

People making fun of you in the lockers?

ESCAPE FROM REALITY TODAY! Call 0800-Playstation-3

Well personally i play games, cause its my escape from reality.
As weird as it mite sound..me and my dad didn't get along when I was young and gaming was my escape from the constant arguing and fighting. I guess I got addicted back then, but I must say lately ive been gaming alot less..Me wonders why...Oh and my dad and I get along really well now..lol..total turn around!!

Accomplish/Achievement.

I am busy compiling my 300+ words response, but for now, this one word ^ will suffice. ;)

Story,
Adventure,
Challenge Computers or other People's skill,
Social Tool to play with friends,
Excitement,
Fear and Adrenaline,
Awesome Graphics capabilities of modern games,
Hardware tinkering,
Relaxation and
Fun.

Escapism? NO!, I don't struggle in real life, I find real life challenging and fun. I play games for the reasons mentioned above.

I think I would also opt for the accomplishment/achievement option with a little escapism thrown in the mix.

I just do it for enjoyment. I work 10 hours a day, gym 1 hour a day, drive 2 hours a day, study about 6 hours a week, eat for about 1 or 2 hours a day and all that adds up. Getting a chance to do some gaming now and then is fun and pleasurable and takes all the stress of everything else away :)

+1 everythings so busy its just nice to play and relax with a bit of gaming:)

Why do we play games, apart from the whole escapism it offers.

all responses must be 300+ words :D

1.Because In real life I can't get in a Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R and Do unlimited amounts of laps on the Awesome Nordschleife Track in Germany.

2.Because in Real life I can't rocket jump.

3.Because in Real life I can't respawn.

4.Because its more fun typing OMFGLOLZORWTFBBQ than to say it.

We play games as a form of escapism from the reality of our fairly dreary lives. The art of the pixel moves us away from the small and realistic day by day drudgery that is work and often family life. Even though we know that games ultimately can’t fulfill the desires we have we can’t help trying each new one in succession despite the failure of the past titles to completely satisfy us. Philosophically, we recognize our need for entertainment is something almost primal, something we need to keep our lives in balance through the work day.
Even if you’re in school, gaming is nothing but escapism.
Also a way to flex our e-appendages and show how big they are ;)
300 words is a bit much hey :D

achievement
escapism
and purly sometimes to a bove "norm" voilent and kill off things horribly (which seems to go wood with metal in the background)
