Windows 98 won't share

I am stuck with a Windows 98 machine [You in the back row:stop laughing] at work until my replacement PC has been prepared for me.

I am not able to create shared folders on my PC. I can pull files from other machines, but "Sharing" right click menu option is absent.

The file and printer sharing service is installed and enabled under Networking in the Control Panel.

Do any of you know how I might go about re-enabling the creation of shares?

You sure you're on the same workgroup as the other pcs? I know my brother had this problem a while back...

Bru becoz that OS was born in 19voetsek ja goodluck on the whole network file sharing thing roflmao :D :p

Wow ok let me get this out of the way :) 98!??? lol

there done.

I remember having a similar problem with my folder options going missing in the menu. After countless efforts i didnt find a solution, and then someone sugessted that i recreate my profile and it worked.

Might be due to a virus or perhaps a corrput registry value.

LOL All pc in all of our clinics are 98 so dont feel to bad phoenix. I know of a few thats still on 95....

Try Malwarebytes AntiMalware, if it's a virus that's disabled it, Malwarebytes will most definitely change it back.

Thank you all for your input.

I have recreated my account, but that didn't change anything.
I have also taken a look at my network settings under the System Policies part of the registry, but nothing seemed out of order there.

We do have NOD32 running on our machines, but I will try to install Stinger or Malwarebytes somehow and see whether it makes any difference...or I could just wait for my machine to be replacement
next.

Newsflash:They trust me enough to have said that I can do the software installation and config. on it. :D

I remember somebody that came to my shop ask me the same question. I told hem the other os might not be able to reconize win98. Back in they day the only way my buddys and I could get win98 work with xp is to create back up floppys.

Sorry to hear that, have you tried to use a registry repair tool, doing a quick google there are quite a few free tools to use. Im still convinced that it might be a corrupt registry.
