Xbox one permanent discount

Also hoping that ongoing poor sales force them to drop price even further. Still don't think I can afford both consoles anytime soon :( but luckily, when I win the PS4 then I only need to buy xbone
People should see this price drop as a good thing.Competition is healthy for the industry and the consumer will reap the benefits.

It's just a bad thing for everyone who bought an Xbox in the last month or two, Microsoft is essentially showing them that they could have potentially saved money on their purchase if Microsoft was selling the Xbox at this lower price from the start.

Yeah I know that maybe they can give something to the early adopters the thing is I think they have to do it they are loosing the uk to ps4 and that is there second biggest market they are in a very tough position.

It's a very difficult position they must be in. On the one hand they have to contend with the PS$ outselling in every department due in no small part to the reduced price. Then on the other hand they have to consider that any action they take is under far more scrutiny than Sony; and the last thing they need is more negative PR.

Balancing all these things I believe it was the correct decision to reduce the price (at least in the UK). Sure the negative press for those who already have the console is high; but they can easily give the people whom already own the console some free vouchers or the like. And at the end of the day they need revenue more than they need us to like them; so they are doing what is necessary to achieve that end.

That's the thing though, they knew from the start that the PS4's reduced price is going to make it more popular with consumers. With the exception to the die hard Xbox fans.

The only reason that they are under more scrutiny is because of the way they treat their customers. I mean they started off with awful PR and then they just let that ball keep rolling. I honestly don't know what Microsoft were thinking when they did that huge launch event and then all those horrible interviews.

Agreed but this is Microsoft were talking about. I honestly wonder if they will even be bothered to give the early adopters something special considering how they have treated their customer base so far.

But they need us to like them otherwise their console and gaming department will fail. If your customers hate you then they are most likely going to go and buy from your rival. I wonder how many of the PS4 sales were due to Xbox owners being pissed off about the Xbox One?

Side Note: Now I feel better :p

Its an embarrassing move for sure. They're not a small company by any means, and they would've done tons of market research and all that business, and essentially its all to waste now. They're playing the catch up game only now, so heads must be rolling at MS!!!

Also, there are probably so few Xbone early adopters the negative press from them in negligible :p

Heck, with everything being said, this makes the console more attainable for us in the near future. I will still giv the console a go and see how it fairs. It's like me and Apple. I despise the brand, but love the products.

What buy it you mean, or try it out in the shop?

This price decrease...does it include the compulsory kinect? Whereby the PS4 eye vibe is an optional extra?

I sure aint buying it first and then trying it. :) Will try it out first. Hopefully at a mates house or something to get a complete feel.

Is the line to still compulsory? I was sure they removed it from the price of the Xbox.

Microsoft's explanation for the price drop:

Xbox One price cut doesn't mean the system is struggling, Microsoft says

Microsoft's announcement today of a £30/$50 price cut for the Xbox One in the United Kingdom is not an indication that the newly launched system is struggling in the region or abroad, marketing executive Harvey Eagle has said.

"No, I don't think so," Eagle told Metro. "For us, this is about giving UK gamers the best value that we can." The new £399 bundle includes a system, copy of Titanfall, and Kinect. The same bundle will be offered in North America for $500, though the price cut is only good for the UK.

The Xbox One's official UK price cut is one of the fastest in modern console history, coming just 94 days into the system's lifecycle. Microsoft maintains that the Xbox One's launch has been a success, with over 3 million consoles sold in 2013 alone.

But if the Xbox One is selling so well (as fast as they can be made, Microsoft says), why is Microsoft implementing a price cut so soon?

"We're doing this because it will generate sales, absolutely," Eagle told GameSpot. "I think it's a great deal for people in the UK to get a next-gen machine for £399 including Kinect, including Titanfall, in the box. Yeah, it's a great deal and hopefully lots of people will take up the offer."

Sony said at the end of January that it was selling 1.5 PlayStation 4s for every Xbox One sold in the UK. The PS4 has officially shifted 5.3 million consoles worldwide as of February 8.

That's the thing though, they knew from the start that the PS4's reduced price is going to make it more popular with consumers. With the exception to the die hard Xbox fans.

I think though that they were banking on people accepting the greater price as a necessary evil due to the bundled Kinect; but they also GREATLY underestimated the desire people have for a frivolous camera in your home watching your every move. "whistling:

Yeah they certainly dug this hole themselves; but they cannot afford to have the mentality of "We messed up royally in the pre-game stage; so let's just lay low until the heat dies down". They have to try something to turn things around; Unfortunately everything they try seems to have been conceived by Gremlins playing darts, but I digress.

Agreed but this is Microsoft were talking about. I honestly wonder if they will even be bothered to give the early adopters something special considering how they have treated their customer base so far.

If they still intend to be doing business in that region for the foreseeable future they will HAVE to. They have already made a huge investment into the XBONE and it would be the height of foolishness to let that investment go to waste merely because they didn't wanna fork out some voucher codes. {But as you say; this is MS we are talking about"whistling:}

Not necessarily; You could have a company like Apple whom is less "liked" than their direct competition but still rakes in a lot of money annually. People aren't buying the PS4 because they are pissed at the XBONE; they are buying the PS4 because it just simply a better machine.

lol, ranting makes errbody smile :p

Translation - "It turns out that releasing our comparatively weaker yet more expensive console a whole 3 months AFTER the powerhouse that is the PS4 wasn't the best idea. So we are going to try recoup some of our investment before things really go south."

Yes I'm sure its selling so well in the UK that's why your implementing a new price cut to generate sales.

Also, if its doing so well why only limit the price cut to the UK?

What about your African, European and United States based customers, don't they deserve a reduced price too?

Every single time that I read a MS press release, its like hitting one more nail in the coffin of the Xbox One.

From what I remember the PS3 was quite a bit more popular than the X360 in Britain/Europe - Xbox has a strong presence in the states and that's where most of their sales come so this might be a move to try and get more of the European market share in a zone that was already more favourable to the PS4.

It has to be done...Can't...resist...

Microsoft has announced its first price cut for the Xbox One in the UK, down to £399.99 from its current £429.99 effective from 28 February 2014.

FTFY
