Exchange rate dependent, that could be a lot worse if the rand weakens further. It's still a bit of an "ouch" price to pay.

Yeah, according to that article, the materials bill was around $325... That still doesn't mean that equates to the cost price and even if that was the final cost price, they wouldn't just take $75 profit.

Why is everyone surprised? MS are forcing Kinect in there, it is an expensive peace if equipment alone, it MUST increase the price by $100 easily. I seriously doubt the PS4s equivalent "Eye" is that expensive, and i'm not even sure it's required or included in their price?

True but the PS4 has one more expensive component.... the RAM. DDR5 isn't cheap. I think they decided to run at a bigger loss to get market share, which isn't a bad idea actually.

Sony's console is packing a 500GB hard drive, and it will not include the camera module, which is a $59 (US) add-on for the $399 box.
