Very cool to see. To be absolutely pedantic, that

black-circled chip is a voltage controller that steps up the current from 3v to 20v.

is actually a power management chip, for protecting any systems connected to a voltage bus. That voltage bus must be in the range of 3V to 20V. So it doesn't do any stepping up or voltage boosting, its more an in-line protection device.
