The news came via an official post on the Gearbox Software forums, in which Community Manager Chris Faylor reveals: “2K Games and Gearbox Software today officially announced that the PC release of Duke Nukem Forever will incorporate Steamworks.”
“What does this mean for you?” Faylor asked rhetorically. “It means that regardless of where or how you buy Duke Nukem Forever on PC, your purchase will be tied to your Steam account, ensuring that you’ll always be able to install a copy of the game even if you lose your disc.”
Faylor also confirmed that Steamworks is the only DRM to be used in the PC version of Duke Nukem Forever.
This is probably good news to most PC gamers, as the debate around prohibitive DRM only serving to punish legitimate buyers still rages on. Steam has found favour with PC gamers for its convenient content delivery platform and unobtrusive DRM which doubles as a virtual backup of one’s game library.
The Duke Nukem Balls of Steel edition has been confirmed for South Africa, and Duke Nuklem fans are likely to be greatly tempted by the cool stuff on offer in the package. For more details read the Duke Nukem Forever Balls of Steel announce article.
