The massive number of PC gamers that pirate

30 August 2016
Good riddance to video game pirates

A new survey released by PC Gamer has revealed the startling number of PC gamers that pirate their games.

The survey which looked at over 50,000 respondents from around the world found that over 35% of PC gamers are active pirates.

Other startling results from the survey include the fact that at some point in their lives, 90% of PC gamers have pirated a game.

In addition, almost 25% of PC gamers have pirated more than 50 games in their lifetimes.

So why do these gamers pirate?

“From their 20s to mid-30s, almost 60% of gamers said they pirated games to demo them. The ‘can’t afford’ justification fell off from a high of nearly 60% at 16-20 to less than 30% at older than 50.”

“Complaints about DRM or specific publishers, though common online, weren’t too often cited as reasons to pirate. Those reasons never rose above 20%.”

I have been buying a lot more games lately but most of them from Humble Bundles.
