An open beta has been announced for Diablo-alike, Mythos. Originally developed by ill-fated Hellgate: London developer, Flagship Studios, Mythos disappeared into the ether when the developer went belly-up. Flagship studios consisted of various key members of the original Diablo development team.
Most of the Flagship team went on to form Runic Games; the developer responsible for the infinitely more successful RPG, Torchlight.
In many ways then, Torchlight became what Mythos would have been. However, the game was picked up by HanbitSoft, and has since been in development separately. The game is supposedly due out early this year, and the open beta will kick off on 12 April.
Mythos is billed as a straight forward hack and slash MMORPG, with randomly generated dungeons and items, a crafting system and various races and character classes to choose from. Mythos will not carry a monthly subscription fee, but will make use of micro-transactions.
