With all this World if Warcraft: Legion drama going on, I could not help but get back into the series.
Sure it is great, but it made me wonder if there are any other games out there that could possibly be as great as WoW if they were turned into an MMO.
There are a couple of video game franchises out there that have the foundations set for a great MMO experience, be it in an FPS or RPG.
Here are a few that I think will work, if they ever did move into the MMO genre.
The Witcher
The Witcher series is massive, and yet it is filled with the most immersive lore, ferocious creatures, and breathtaking world in gaming. As a game that took over 150 hours to complete, it is something beyond anything we have experienced in a video game.
The Witcher world would be the perfect setting for an MMORPG. Its dense locations, detailed side quests, and immersive setting would be the perfect fit.
Imagine running around the world and seeing other players take on trolls and Basilisks. You can then join up with them and start a dungeon, which will then take on all your Witcher skills as you all need to work as a team to progress.
The Witcher has enough diversity to make sure each player has a role and each player is able to equip what they need to in order to make for a successful dungeon experience.
Assassin’s Creed
With all the locations that we visit in Assassin’s Creed, all the gear and all the missions, it would be fantastic if the game was able to open its doors to an MMO point of view.
Collecting unique gear like blades, hoods, chest armour and more would allow you to really stand out of the crowd.
The game could let you visit different time zones and locations to take down the Templar threats that form throughout history, or allow you to create guild-like Assassin Brotherhoods to get your band of Assassins together and take on raids.
The series would even make PvP work really well by bringing back the multiplayer that we experienced in Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, and putting our Brotherhood guilds to the test against other guilds.
I am sure Assassin’s Creed fans reading this can relate to the excitement.
Far Cry
Far Cry has changed over the past few entries. Since Far Cry 3, the franchise has offered a more sandbox world, with lots to see and do while exploring it.
To make Far Cry a successful MMO experience, Ubisoft would need to add more detail into the world by implementing better crafting, weapon creation, gear diversity, and a deep and detailed leveling system.
Imagine the possibility of forming a team, and heading into an outpost with high-leveled enemies, similar to what the Division has with health and defense. You would have to use your abilities, be it scouting to highlight threats for your players, or tanking to distract enemies and take fire.
Working together as a team to obtain the best loot from taking over the outpost, and perhaps a fortress, and then getting on an elephant and riding away into the sunset. Why has this not happened yet?
Mass Effect
There is no sci-fi MMORPG out there that manages to bring a universe to life while maintaining great combat, tough decisions, and beautiful locations around the universe. We all love the Mass Effect series, and the idea of exploring the galaxy with your friends while taking on the threats that await in the dark corners of the universe is something really cool.
Mass Effect already has its deep lore, great look and class system, as well as a bunch of various species to choose from that will add to the game’s possible starting areas and enemy factions.
Different roles and different loadouts will make a big difference in missions and raids, as you and your team need to work together to take down threats.
Cool creatures seen in the series can be used for mounts, and who wouldn’t want a baby Salarian running around next to them while they travel the galaxy?
Dark Souls
Ah the Dark Souls series, one of my all-time favourites. The game is already big on its co-op and PvP mechanics, so much so that it even has a fighting arena, and co-op is vital to surviving the brutality that is Dark Souls.
An MMO Dark Souls, on the other hand, would be the next step in creating a new type of game. Just picture it, heading into the fog with 5 friends, ready to tackle a boss that has abilities that skills that can wipe you all out in an instant. You will now need to communicate and take turns attacking the massive boss as once you die, you are out for the fight.
Dark Souls would make a great MMORPG, as it already has the foundation mechanics in the series, it just needs to expand them to be more multiplayer-based.
Would you play any of these MMO games if they were real? Let us know in the comments and forum.
