Devil May Cry movie rights pawned off

1 March 2011

Screen Gems has secured a deal with Capcom for the movie rights to Devil May Cry. Screen Gems is known for successfully bringing to the silver screen that other Capcom franchise you may have heard of – Resident Evil. The Resident Evil flicks have raked in ±R4 billion worldwide over the years.

Kyle Ward has been hired to write the script. Ward is just beginning to make a name for himself in the screenwriting space, notably having written the script for the Kane & Lynch movie, which is currently in pre-production.

With five games in the series, including an upcoming reboot by developer Ninja Theory, it remains to be seen how series protagonist Dante will be portrayed in the movie.

No doubt Capcom is looking for another box office success story with this intellectual property. Having posted some dim financial results recently, they could do with the extra money. Maybe they should take that money and consider developing some new IP?
