There has been some confusion surrounding the local retail launch for the PC exclusive MMORPG Rift. Certain local retailers listed the game as releasing on 4 March, a release date which according to local distributor Silver Screen was never confirmed.
This date was based on the UK release, and it should not have been taken as a concrete local release date.
Fortunately, a local shipment has finally arrived in SA, and is due to be in Silver Screen’s warehouse this afternoon. Orders will go out to retailers tomorrow morning, which means that we should begin seeing the game on store shelves from tomorrow afternoon, or Thursday morning onwards.
Rift is MMORPG that has been described as very much adhering to the World of Warcraft mould, while introducing a number of interesting innovations and gameplay design mechanics. In our hands-on preview, MyGaming MMO buff Myles found it to be surprisingly polished, but unsurprisingly derivative of WoW.
The game has already been available via Steam for a couple of days now, so it remains to be seen what local retail uptake will be like.
