If you’re looking to upgrade from playing games at a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 but don’t have the budget for a high-performance 4K gaming, then 1440p gaming could be the answer.

Gaming at a resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 can provide a dramatic increase in quality while still allowing for a relatively high level of performance.

We’ve selected an array of budget components which can provide good performance at 1440p while keeping the price of the overall build fairly cheap.

We have also included the cost of a value SSD in the build, as a gaming PC built for 1440p gaming would benefit from the performance increase provided by a solid state drive.

Check out how much it costs to build a 1440p gaming PC in South Africa:

Performance

Intel Core i5-6400

The Intel Core i5-6400 is a relatively cheap and powerful Skylake processor.

Featuring four cores and a turbo clock speed of 3.3GHz, the Core i5-6400 is the perfect processor for high-end gaming builds that don’t require any overclocking.

Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070

The GeForce GTX 1070 is one of the best graphics cards of the latest generation.

Based on Nvidia’s Pascal architecture and a 16nm manufacturing process, the GeForce GTX 1070 provides massive amounts of performance at a reasonable price, and is more than powerful enough for 1440p gaming at 60FPS.

Samsung 850 Evo Solid State Drive

The Samsung 850 Evo is a decent SSD which strikes a balance between value and performance, and is a popular choice among gamers on a budget.

120GB is more than enough to accommodate an operating system and an important game or two.

That is like half the cost to game at 1440p, well almost seeing that the cheapest monitor (with good quality) that can game at 2560 x 1440 is about R 8400.00 (Dell – UltraSharp U2717D 27 inch)
