Many PC gamers were a little shocked to discover a few weeks back that Crysis 2 would ship without DirectX 11 or even DirectX 10 support. The original Crysis was the poster child for DirectX 10 at the time, and went on to become one of the most visually impressive games ever released. Therefore, the fact that its sequel three years later does not even support the same API standard or better than its progenitor had PC gamers puzzled.
Crysis 2 currently only supports DirectX 9, although not many who have played it on PC will accuse it of being anything less than gorgeous. Still, DX 10 and DX 11 support would be nice for owners of current generation graphics cards. Forunatly, Crytek promised weeks back that it would be patching in DX 10 and DX 11 support retroactively following the game’s release.
According to German PC gaming site PC-Max, today is the day that we will see a DX11 Crysis 2 patch released.
“28.3. is supposed to follow another patch which will not only bring with it DirectX 11, but also integrate an expanded graphics menu is later. Those who want to experience the game that is in full bloom, which should wait a couple of days.”
Sadly, PC-Max does not attribute this information to any official source, and neither EA nor Crytek have provided any official comment, so this story remains firmly in rumour territory for now.
