The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition has only been out for a few days, but dedicated modders have already gotten stuck into the work of creating amazing mods for the remastered version of the game.
Of course, Skyrim Special Edition also features mod support for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, with a few caveats for each platform.
Modding for the PlayStation 4 is particularly hamstrung, as Sony has banned any mods which do not use the vanilla game’s assets.
We’ve ranked the ten most popular on the Skyrim Special Edition Nexus, inserting their Nexus description and a download link for both PC and console, where supported.
The Xbox One supports a surprising number of popular mods, including the impressive Apocalypse – Magic of Skyrim mod.
The PlayStation 4’s mod library cannot compare to the PC or Xbox One’s however, and none of the mods on this list are compatible with the PS4.
Check out the ten best mods for Skyrim Special Edition below:
1. Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch
A comprehensive bugfixing mod for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – Special Edition.
The goal of the Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch (aka USSEP) is to eventually fix every bug with Skyrim Special Edition not officially resolved by the developers to the limits of the Creation Kit and community-developed tools, in one easy-to-install package.
2. Static Mesh Improvement Mod
A massive project to greatly improve the appearance of countless static 3D models in Skyrim.
3. Achievements Mod Enabler
Enables achievements in Skyrim SE when using mods. This is designed to be version independent.
No SKSE needed. Not NMM compatible.
4. Alternate Start – Live Another Life
Live Another Life provides an alternative means to start the game for those who do not wish to go through the lengthy intro sequence at Helgen.
5. Cutting Room Floor
A mod to restore several pieces of cut content in Skyrim Special Edition.
6. Total Character Makeover
A collection of carefully curated and optimized character improvements.
7. Wet and Cold
This mod adds weather-dependent visual effects and NPC AI enhancements.
8. Ordinator- Perks of Skyrim
Ordinator overhauls the perk trees of Skyrim with over 400 perks to improve the depth and fun of building and playing your character.
It accomplishes this in a lightweight, compatible and clean fashion.
9. The Paarthurnax Dilemma
Small expansion on the quest the Blades give you concerning Paarthurnax.
10. Apocalypse – Magic of Skyrim
Apocalypse adds 155 new spells to Skyrim (31 per school) with high quality custom effects and animations.
The spells are unique, balanced, lore friendly and blend seamlessly into the vanilla magic system. Also includes scrolls and staves.

Not bad, but don’t think I can leave my modded Skyrim. It looks better than the game in the screenshots above
