FIFA 11 tournament – Brightwater Commons 16-17 April

13 April 2011

The Gauteng live qualifier leg and grand finale of the MainGaming FIFA 11 Tournament, supported by AWX Gaming, will take place at The Brightwater Commons in Randburg on the 16th and 17th of April 2011. The winner takes home R50,000 along with an all-expenses paid trip to a FIFA Interactive World Cup qualifier.

Tex Hartog from AWX Gaming said that he is passionate about the industry so it is important for them to support community styled gaming events such as those hosted by MainGaming. “We would love to see gaming, especially competitive gaming, grow as a pastime for South African console gaming enthusiasts. Maingaming.co.za hosts professional events that are easy to enter with great prize support and a fast growing community and we believe this event is going to be a big draw card for gamers and spectators alike.”

The Cape Town and Durban qualifiers have already produced two of the finalists together with a finalist from their online tournament. That leaves one spot open to a Gauteng-based player. Those interested in participating can still enter by signing-up on the MainGaming website. Registrations are from 09:00 – 11:00 at the Promotions Court and the Tournament kicks off at 11:15.

MainGaming South Africa believes that The Brightwater Commons will provide the perfect atmosphere for the gaming tournament as family and friends can easily take part by being part of the crowd.

When asked how SA gamers stack up against the rest of the world, Abubakar Akhalwaya, a local FIFA gamer said that while the level of international players is quite high, South Africans are not very far behind. Getting players to compete against one another through head to head live tournaments such as the FIFA 11 Tournament will definitely help to improve the standards of local players, said Akhalwaya.

The MainGaming team stated that “the highlight of the Tournament so far was hosting the Durban event at the Moses Mabhida Stadium where competing gamers got a chance to show off their skill overlooking the pitch.”
