The first South African Baskin-Robbins ice cream parlour will open on 9 December 2016 in Canal Walk.
According to Baskin-Robbins SA COO, Sean Dearham, the “demand for artisanal ice cream and a variety of flavours ” is on the rise in South Africa, and Baskin-Robbins is best known globally for its ‘31 flavours’ – a different flavour for each day of the month.
“South Africans can always look forward to something exciting at our ice cream shops and with the help of our famous ‘Pink Spoon’, guests can sample all 31 flavours until they find the flavour that makes them happiest,” he said.
The local brand is owned and managed by Grand Parade Investments, the same company which handles the Burger King and Dunkin’ Donuts franchises in South Africa.
More stores are expected to open around the country in 2017.
Price range? Canal Walk says to me a bit more upper market? Another Starbucks in the making. Managed properly it could hang around a while but with higher prices that always seem to tag along with the “artisan” tag its a very limited market.
