What we're playing this weekend (16-17 April 2011)

15 April 2011

James Etherington-Smith

I’m going on holiday for a couple of weeks, and in between lounging around on the beach and throwing my name around bars, I’ll be trying to catch up with some old friends. Namely, Heroes of Newerth, StarCraft II, Bad Company 2 and Left 4 Dead 2. Ah, good times.

Nic Simmonds

Shogun 2 and Dragon Age 2 mostly. My Tiger Woods PGA Tour 12 review is also outstanding, and in all honesty I’m finding it very difficult to stick at it. The problem is that I played the last two games in the series to the point of boredom, and this latest iteration does little to spice things up. Keep an eye out for my full review next week.

Tarryn van der Byl

Probably mostly {CLASSIFIED}, for review purposes, of course. Otherwise, I’ll be trying to play the Monkey Island theme on my guitar and generally making a lot of noise.

Ed: Despite Tarryn’s best efforts to disguise her gaming option for this weekend, we happen to know she’ll be playing The Sims Medieval, for review purposes, of course. Dressing up virtual dolls in pretty princess dresses and acting like a non-hardcore gamer, for review purposes, of course.

“Is this hardcore enough for you, %$@#%#&!?”

Dan Parmenter

It’s Nostalgia Weekend at the Parmenter Palace this weekend as I relive the memories of a few favourite franchises. SOCOM is back with Special Forces, a generic but thus far enjoyable cover-based shooter (catch the full review early next week), and the Tomb Raider Trilogy will be dredging up some pleasant memories of quality platforming and awkward Lara Croft fantasies. Finishing off my gaming recollection is the excellent iOS version of Death Rally, an absolute classic that anyone with an iDevice or respect for their childhood memories should own.

Myles Gray

Okay, so last weekend I did the whole “manly-man” thing with Bulletstorm. Due to the nature of action games, it was over before it really began.

Now this weekend I decided to give Dragon Age II some proper attention – looking to see what all the fuss is about with same sex relationships. So, I have decided to play the bisexual, romancing everyone and anything I encounter. “You got a purdy mouth”

In between that, I will be staying with my faithful team of Pokemon as I finally take out The Elite Four! Then it is on to capturing some Legendaries and trading to complete my Pokedex (gawd I am lame…).

Chris Kemp

A friend of mine has come to visit who I haven’t seen in quite some time, so this weekend I’ll be sacrificing those tender moments with my various gaming devices for a lot of partying in Seoul. However, I’m definitely going to expect some alcohol-fueled all-in strategies on the Starcraft 2 ladder, which somehow always seems like a good idea when you arrive home at 4am (but not so much the next morning when you look at your score).

Aside from that, I expect a decent chunk of recovery Sunday will be dedicated to him trying to show me exactly why Dragon Age 2 is actually awesome (I still seem to be missing something).
