This year, the full moons of October, November and December all take place when the moon is at its closest point of approach in its orbit around Earth — a so-called supermoon, reports Space.com.
The last of these supermoon trifecta can be viewed at 02:05 on 14 December (Wednesday) SAST, but will appear full to the casual observer the night before and after the main event.
As an added bonus, December’s full moon falls on the same night as the peak of the Geminid meteor shower.
The light of the full moon will reduce visibility of said shower “five to ten fold,” according to a statement from NASA, however you should be able to catch 5-10 shooting stars an hour.
