Although Capcom has yet to formally announce the next iterative Resident Evil title, the series is apparently scheduled for a total revamp.
Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City producer Masachika Kawata has told Spanish gaming site MarcaPlayer (translated by Rely on Horror) that Resident Evil 6 will be nothing much like previous games.
“The series will see a complete renovation with the next entry on every level,” he says. “But we can’t forget about all the previous entries that have led to the creation of many possibilities for the franchise.
“I can’t say if we’re going to make it survival horror or a shooter, but I can say that it’ll be totally new.”
Like maybe a Kinect-supported My Little Las Plagas pet sim or something, but probably not.
Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City (due out sometime later this year) is already a bit of a departure from the series standard, featuring squad-based, action-oriented third person shooty-shooty with four-player co-op.
In the meantime, both Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil: Code Veronica are being prepped for an HD-remastered launch over Xbox LIVE and the PSN.
