Local Apple distributor Core has announced that the iPad 2 will be released in South Africa this Friday, 29 April.
Local pricing has also been confirmed:

The iPad 2 is thinner and lighter than the iPad, features a lithium-polymer battery which boasts a ten hour life time (same as iPad but less than half the size), a new dual core Apple A5 CPU, and front and backward facing 720p cameras.
The iPad 2 features the same 25cm multitouch 1024×768 LED display as the iPad. Apple claims the new A5 CPU grants the device twice as much processing power as the iPad, and the RAM has also been upgraded from 256MB DDR to 512 MB DDR2. The onboard graphics porcessor is supposedly nine times faster than the iPad’s, which means that the iPad 2 should theoretically be a more powerful gaming device than its predecessor.
