Rumour: Revelations on the next Assassin’s Creed game

3 May 2011

Ubisoft is doing a pretty good job about whipping up a mini-frenzy around their next game in the Assassin’s Creed franchise. Ubisoft is set to reveal some actual details on the title sometime in May 2011 – probably just enough to whet appetites ahead of a big E3 reveal on 6 June 2011.

Over the weekend, we had a conspiratorially timed logo leak, prompting rumours that the next Assassin’s Creed game will be titled Revelations. The leak occurred on the Assassin’s Creed Facebook page, and was captured by a NeoGAF user before being being removed. Supposedly, a Flash file appeared containing Altair’s name written in Arabic. Altair is the protagonist from the first Assassin’s Creed title.

Of course, this could also be the title of some sort of pre-reveal content that establishes the story, such as an online webisode or short film in the vein of Assassin’s Creed Lineage.

Ubisoft has also released a couple of teaser videos so far, done in the style of the Subject 16 puzzle videos from ACII and Brotherhood. The first didn’t reveal much, but the second featured a Phaistos Disc prompting suspicions that the game will be set in Greece.

Coupled with the rumoured return of Altair, could this mean that the next game, potentially titled ‘Revelations’ will be set in medieval Greece? At the end of the PSP game Assassin’s Creed Bloodlines, Altair speaks of a desire to learn more about the Apple of Eden – perhaps he could be uncovering some sort of revelation about the object.

Keep up with the ongoing tease at the Assassin’s Creed Facebook page.
