Exclusive Books got into gaming in late 2009, and since then has been slowly building a name for itself in what is an extremely congested market. Exclus1ves.co.za has managed to capture the attention of local gamers with competitive pricing and free delivery. So far, we are impressed with their entry into the market.
We caught up with Exclus1ves spokesperson Lood du Plessis to find out more about the e-tailer’s experience in gaming so far, and what its plans are going forward.
MyGaming: How has Exclus1ves’ foray into gaming been so far?
Exclus1ves: Games are certainly not books, that we can tell you. We are slowly but surely expanding our reach into the market and making a name for ourselves in the industry. Thanks to some spectacular sales (we’re sure you remember them) gamers became aware of us as a retailer for not only books, but games, music, e-books and film as well.
MyGaming: You ran those epic Flashmob sales a while back – why did you stop?
Exclus1ves: We would not be a retailer if we kept on giving away things for free, would we? The Flash Mob Fire Sales were amazing and really placed Exclus1ves.co.za on the map.
MyGaming: Why does Exclusive Books consider the gaming market important?
Exclus1ves: Because the gaming industry is one of the biggest entertainment industries in the world. It not only caters for the hardcore gamers amongst us, but for everyone.
MyGaming: Do you sell mostly PS3, PC or Xbox 360 games?
Exclus1ves: Our sales are almost perfectly spread amongst the platforms, with the high end consoles garnering slightly more attention than the PC and hand-held markets. We try to keep up to date and informed about the gaming market in general, hoping to offer a well rounded service to our customers.
MyGaming: What would you like to see change in the local games market?
Exclus1ves: Because we here at Exclus1ves strongly believe in South African talent, we would love to see a South African studio take on truly South African content. Games made by South Africans for everybody.
MyGaming: What has been Exclus1ve’s biggest challenge getting into games?
Exclus1ves: Well, gamers are dichotomous. They are adventurous enough to want to try new things but they are also fiercely loyal, and that loyalty is hard earned. We were in the gaming business for months before most of the community realised that we sold games in our online store.
Remember, every week Exclus1ves gives away a game on MyGaming. To find out more about how to win a game of your choice, go to our Exclus1ves competition thread.
