WhatsApp said it will bring back its text status feature, while keeping its current image-based status system, reported TechCrunch.

Text statuses appeared in the Android beta version of WhatsApp following consumer backlash regarding the new image-based replacement service which rolled out in February.

WhatsApp said it will roll out a text status feature to Android users in the next week.

WhatsApp users will be able to update their status through the About section of their profiles.

“We heard from our users that people missed the ability to set a persistent text-only update in their profile, so we’ve integrated this feature into the About section in profile settings,” WhatsApp told TechCrunch.

WhatsApp will continue to build on its new status feature, which allows users to share images, GIFs, and videos.

The text-based status feature is also set to return to WhatsApp for iPhone users.
