BioWare confirms gay romances for Mass Effect 3

16 May 2011

Mass Effect 3 has totally come out on Twitter, with BioWare’s Casey Hudson confirming that for the first time in the series, the third game will feature gay romance options. Like a virgin, touched for the very first time.

“Happy to confirm Mass Effect 3 supports wider options for love interests including same-sex for male and female characters, reactive to how you interact with them in-game,” he writes.

Despite both Dragon Age games including gay romance opportunities, Mass Effect has – somewhat controversially – avoided them (although some would argue that being able to court the officially-non-gendered-but-actually-female-because-she-has-boobs Liara T’soni as a female Shepard counts, because it does). Of course, the decision to now include them will doubtless prompt further controversy, because people are impossible to please like that.

I know my male Shepard has always had a pretty big thing for Joker. I mean, he’s funny, he’s smart, and he drives a spaceship. Total babe.
