Intel announces Movidius Neural Compute Stick

22 July 2017

Intel has announced the launch of the Movidius Neural Compute Stick, a USB drive with an onboard machine learning processor.

Movidius was acquired by Intel in September last year and the company took over its Fathom Neural Compute Stick project.

The compute stick features a Movidius visual processing unit (VPU) and can connect to devices via a USB 3.0 Type-A connector.

The device draws a miniscule amount of power and allows developers to run prototype AI applications offline.

Users can also connect multiple compute sticks together to provide improved VPU performance.

The Movidius Neural Compute Stick is available from RS Components for R1,836 excluding VAT.
