Showtime has filed a lawsuit in California seeking a pre-emptive injunction against 40 websites to prevent them from streaming the Mayweather vs McGregor fight, TorrentFreak reported.

The company said it has extensive experience in preventing streaming sites from showing its content without authorisation.

“This includes sending cease and desist demands to LiveStreamHDQ in response to its unauthorised live streaming of the fight between Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao,” said Showtime.

LiveStreamHDQ is involved in the operation of at least 41 sites that have been set up to target people looking for a way to watch the upcoming fight without paying, it said

The fight will be offered as a pay-per-view event for between $89.95 and $99.95 in the US.

In South Africa, the fight will be aired live on SuperSport.

The fight will also be shown on Showmax later in the day, along with DStv Catch Up.
