Call of Duty web TV series coming to Elite

1 June 2011

The first bit of information on what Activision touted as “exclusive, high-production value, original entertainment programming designed exclusively for the Call of Duty community” has come to light.

Paying subscribers to the Call of Duty Elite content monetisation service will get exclusive access to a web TV series based on the Call of Duty franchise. Exclusive that is, until it is ripped and leaked mere moments later to file sharing networks.

Speaking to the UK’s The Guardian, Activision head honcho Eric Hirshberg said: “We have engaged some top Hollywood talent to create linear video content that will be exclusive to Elite members. That content is inspired by Call of Duty.”

Hirshberg said that such premium content will maintain players’ interest in the Call of Duty brand during the yearly period of Call of Duty cloning development cycles. Comparing this to sporting fans, he said: “If you’re a sports fan, there are lots of ways for you to connect with that hobby, that passion, not just on the day that the games are played, but throughout the week, and we wanted to give [Call of Duty players] real entertainment value.”

Apparently Activision will have something concrete to show off in terms of this entertainment content sometime later this year.
