THQ has officially (finally) announced that Darksiders II is a real thing, and will be shipping out for PC, Xbox, and PS3 sometime next year.
The news comes by way of US magazine Game Informer’s latest cover, revealing that Death will be taking over as the protagonist the second time around. Presumably War has business in Afghanistan or something.
“Fans of the first Darksiders are already familiar with Vigil’s fiction – the eternal war that rages between the forces of Heaven and Hell,” writes GI’s Ben Reeves. “With Darksiders II, Vigil looks to deliver a richer experience as players explore more dungeons, talk with a variety of NPCs, and experiment with a detailed loot system.”
“We have taken the best parts of Darksiders and improved on them with a host of new mechanics and features. You will see great things from this epic game,” says THQ core games chief Danny Bilson.
The game’s existence hasn’t exactly been a secret until now, though. Earlier this year, Bilsen kind of confirmed that the game was already in the works.
“[Darksiders] did about twice as much as Red Faction,” he told CVG. “It’s done pretty well. I believe that franchise building isn’t about a zillion units out of the gate, it’s about building a fan base, building a community of people that dig it, listening to them, doing what you think is good…
“The second one will be twice as big as the first one and the third one you get to big numbers. That’s my strategy.”
