The least popular programming languages in the world

Stack Overflow has released the results of its Developer Story tag research, outlining the trends on its website.

Data from Stack Overflow Jobs was used to determine the least-liked programming languages by comparing how often developers would tag a language as “Disliked” compared to “Liked”.

The core was calculated as a percentage, with a rating of 30% inferring 70% of developers tagged the language as favourable, while 30% tagged it as disliked.

The least popular programming languages by far were Perl, Delphi, and VBA – with Perl scoring 5% higher on the scale than the other two.

Other disliked languages included PHP, CoffeeScript, and Objective-C.

Stack Overflow also noted that languages which were more disliked than others experienced slower or even negative growth rates in 2017, while those which developers preferred to work with enjoyed increased growth.
