Just a few hours ago Nintendo announced its next generation home console; the Wii U. In case you missed it, the Wii U will be an HD console, and will come standard with a tablet like controller pad boasting a 6.2-inch touch screen display. One of the neater features is that this display can double as the primary display screen if you lose TV access.
The controller also has built in rumble functionality, a camera and motion detection. Although all the focus is on the controller for the time being, Nintendo made it clear that it is not a portable console.
The Wii U will be completely backwards compatible with Wii games and peripherals, and is expected to be released next year. No indication has been given of what sort of price point we can expect the console to sell at, but the consensus is that it will be pricey at launch.
These are the first two official pack shots of the Wii U.
