In an official tweet from the Evolution Championship Series (EVO) account, the organisers have announced that Nintendo has pulled Super Smash Bros from appearing in the annual fighting game tournament.
The event’s organisers have not provided any reasons for Nintendo’s decision, but it could be related to an announcement back in November 2021 that Nintendo would partner with Panda Global to host the first licensed circuit for Super Smash Bros Ultimate and Super Smash Bros Melee.
Additionally, Sony’s acquisition of EVO back in March 2021 could be a contributing factor since Sony is one of Nintendo’s main competitors in the gaming space.

This will be the first tournament since 2007 without any Super Smash Bros titles in the match lineup.
Despite this news, the live event will still take place in Las Vegas later this year.
The games lineup and competitors for 2022’s EVO are still unknown, but you can tune into the EVO 2022 announcement show on 8 March at 03:00 on Twitch to find out more.
