Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet are the two latest Pokemon games coming to the Nintendo Switch. This was confirmed during the Pokemon Presents stream, which took place on Sunday, 27 February.
The games mark the ninth generation of the games series and will release in late 2022.
These new titles will join games such as Pokemon Brilliant Diamond, Pokemon Shining Pearl, and Pokemon Legends: Arceus – all of which were released over the last two years.
The announcement video’s description reads “Welcome to the open world of Pokemon,” suggesting that the two upcoming titles will also be set in an expansive open world like the latest game, Pokemon Legends: Arceus.
A new generation of mainline Pokemon games means that there will also be three new starter Pokemon:
- Sprigatto, a grass-based cat Pokemon with Overgrow as its starting ability.
- Fuecoco, a fire-based croc Pokemon with Blaze as its starting ability.
- Quaxly, a water-based duckling Pokemon with Torrent as its starting ability.
