LulzSec brings down Escapist Magazine

14 June 2011

In their latest twitter updates, hacker outfit LulzSec has apparently taken aim at The Escapist Magazine Website, a well-known and highly regarded gaming news and features website.

“Okay Escapist Magazine, let’s play a little game…” tweets LulzSec, and minutes later, “Tango down: http://t.co/Kgsq9LP *munches popcorn* wonder where the gamers are gonna run now.” Followed buy “Primary Lulz Cannon is making toast of Escapist Magazine. The real disruption ammunition is secretly causing hell for their sysadmins. umad?”

Visiting The Escapist Magazine website at the time of publication reveals that it is indeed down for the count. Is it all just for the lulz?

LulzSec has claimed a number of cyber victories of late; last weekend they hacked into Bethesda’s websites and made off with a claimed 200,000 Brink user account details. Prior to that they hacked into Nintendo and Sony Pictures.
