Battlefield 3 Physical Warfare pack available to all

17 June 2011

The entire internet (okay, just the bit that counts – the gaming news websites and discussion boards) was near apoplectic last week when a rumour began to spread regarding the Battlefield 3 Limited Edition Physical Warfare pre-order incentive. The Physical Warfare pack is only going to be available through specific retailers – MyGaming has confirmed that BT Games has secured this offer in SA.

It was thought that the items granted would only be available to pre-order customers, and regular post-release and non-Physical Warfare pre-order buyers would simply have to suck it. The reason this caused such an uproar is because the in-game items in the Physical Warfare pack are pretty good, and concerns were raised that this would make the game unbalanced.

After a week filled with gamer-rage and calls for Battlefield 3 boycotts, EA and DICE finally got around to clarifying things. It turns out there was nothing to worry about and the Physical Warfare pack will be made available to all players sometime after the launch of the game.

“I would like to start by clarifying that the Physical Warfare Pack is a time-based exclusive. If you do not pre-order Battlefield 3 at a retailer carrying the Physical Warfare Pack, don’t worry. We will unlock the contents of the Physical Warfare Pack for free to all Battlefield 3 players later this year,” said Karl Magnus Troedsson, General Manager, DICE.

Troedsson also took the opportunity to clarify some things about the Back to Karkand expansion pack which is also on offer as a pre-order incentive. “If you pre-order Battlefield 3, you will be able to play Back to Karkand at no extra charge as soon as it is released, but it is not day one DLC and it is not on the base game disc.”

“We think it’s a sweet deal, and it’s available to everyone everywhere. If you do not pre-order Battlefield 3, you can still buy Back to Karkand separately and play it as soon as it is released, the very same date as anyone who pre-ordered. In other words, there is no segmentation of the community when we launch the base game,” said Troedsson.

He finished off by hinting that there will be more pre-order incentives revealed in the coming weeks and promised to update with full, clear, specific details on these so as not to cause confusion again. You may want to hold off on your pre-orders until all of the various incentives have been announced.
