Rumour control: Mass Effect 3 features a 4-player co-op mode

17 June 2011

Eurogamer’s deep cover industry spies are reporting that Mass Effect 3 is set to include some sort of four-player co-op mode, separate from the single-player campaign. According to secret intel exchanges, the mode will feature “competitive elements”, and may or may not be a wave-based, Horde-style mode.

Another source is claiming that a “multiplayer Mass Effect experience” is in development over at BioWare Montreal, but it’s not yet clear whether it’s a component of Mass Effect 3 or a completely new title.

Elsewhere, CVG’s own stealth operatives are claiming the multiplayer comprises “original missions made for online”, and will be included with Mass Effect 3.

Asked at E3 if Mass Effect 3 would feature multiplayer, BioWare’s Ray Muzyka was diplomatically evasive.

“We haven’t talked at all about multiplayer in the Mass Effect franchise, but we’re exploring multiplayer in all of our games and all of our franchises,” he said, not really answering the question at all.

“It’s always an idea we’re interested in.

“The short answer is we have no comment on that. But we’re interested in the idea of multiplayer.”

Mmmm. File this one under “Pretty likely” for now then.
