Valorant has matured into a fantastic competitive tactical shooter since its release in 2020.
The game’s fast-paced competitive fights and super-powered agents have amassed a huge fan base, and have driven the formation of professional teams and esports tournaments that are followed by millions of people around the world.
However, the game is tormented by players picking the same agents again and again, as many competitive matches feature Jetts, Sages, Vipers, and not much else.
This repetitive selection is boring, so we’ve decided to shed some light on three underrated agents that deserve a bit more consideration.
The stats used below are taken from Valorbuff’s agent meta stats, which are formulated using over 160 million matches played across each game mode, map, and rank.
Skye
Skye has not been considered a good meta pick ever since she entered the game. This is partly because her weapon re-equip after casting an ability was quite slow – making her more vulnerable than the other agents.
However, this hasn’t damaged her win rate, as she holds the sixth-highest win rate in competitive play at 47.4% – beating out s-tier agents like Sage, Reyna, and Jett.
This is quite surprising when you consider her pick rate is only 21.6%. With a win rate as good as hers, more players should be taking advantage of her supportive skills.
Her info gathering skills and healing abilities are a bit harder to get accustomed to when compared to Sage or Sova, but she makes up for it with a kit that’s built around supporting her team rather than sustaining herself.
Brimstone
Despite his underwhelming pick rate of just 22.5%, Brimstone has the second-highest win rate out of all Controller agents at 48.5% – which is even higher than pro-scene favourite Omen.
He also boasts the second-highest first blood percentage, which shows that the soldier has more to offer than players realize.
Brimstone’s abilities involve opening his minimap to strategically place smokes and airstrikes, providing the team with useful info and great point control.
Phoenix
When it comes to potential versus pick rate, Phoenix is easily the most underrated Duelist in Valorant.
This is because out of all the Duelists, he boasts both supportive and self-sustaining abilities.
His skills may not be as impressive as Jett’s knives or Raze’s explosives, but Phoenix compensates for this by not relying on the assistance of other players, as he can do a lot on his own with decent survivability.
He is tied for second place when it comes to first blood percentage and holds a win rate of 45.7% which is only 0.3% behind the second most picked agent in the game, Reyna.
His ultimate Run It Back allows him to run in and take down an enemy or two, before being teleported back to the start of the ultimate with all his health restored. This provides a team with intel on enemy positions without the risk of losing a player.
Additionally, this self-sufficient skillset and his impressive survivability make him a very good pick for players’ solo queueing – he is therefore far more powerful than people give him credit.
