According to a new employee, PlayStation has set up a game preservation team.
Garrett Fredley revealed in a tweet that he had joined this new team
Today is my first day as a Senior Build Engineer at @PlayStation, working as one of their initial hires for the newly created Preservation team!
Game Preservation was my first career passion, so I’m ecstatic that I get to go back to those roots 😊

Fredley is a senior build engineer with extensive experience in game preservation, according to his recent LinkedIn post.
“Game Preservation was my first career passion. It was my first foray into the world of Software Engineering / Dev Ops, and into a world that so many are unaware of. I was just a novice back then, contributing any way I could regardless of my inexperience. Now, I’m back to it, no longer the novice I once was.” Fredley said in the post.
Given his experience, Fredley was a logical choice for PlayStation; however, it has not officially been announced what the new team will be focusing on.
However, given the recent announcement of a new PS Plus service that will include access to hundreds of older games, the team might be tasked with optimising these titles for modern PlayStation consoles.
PlayStation has not offered any official comment since Fradley’s announcement.
