PAX East 2022 took place from 21 April to 24 April, bringing us a myriad of new indie games and gameplay reveals of upcoming titles.
These are some of the most exciting games shown during the games showcase.
Potionomics
Potionomics has you paying off the debt you took on after inheriting your uncle’s potion shop.
You’ll do this by brewing potions and selling your stock to prospective customers, which involves some creative means of persuasion.
You can successfully barter with your clients by defeating them in a card battling mini-game. As you defeat opponents, you expand your card deck, providing more effective ways of generating income.
Lucid
Lucid is a metroidvania platformer similar to Celeste but with weapons and combat mixed in.
Lucid’s fast-paced gameplay combined with the synthwave soundtrack and pixel art style promises an engaging and deeply satisfying experience.
Lego Bricktales
Lego Bricktales is a story-driven puzzle-adventure game set across various biomes, including jungles, deserts, and tropical islands.
The game involves building machines to solve physics-based puzzles in a fashion similar to Besiege’s sandbox builder gameplay.
Asterigos: Curse of the Stars
Asterigos: Curse of the Stars is a story-driven single-player action RPG inspired by Greek and Roman mythologies.
What makes Asterigos unique is the weapon-changing mechanic that encourages players to combine different weapon types to find the playstyle most suited to them.
Superfuse
Superfuse looks a lot like Diablo, but with superheroes.
You’ll be able to fit your abilities to your playstyle with a deep and engaging skill tree.
A hack-and-slash action RPG like this isn’t complete without couch co-op, which is why Superfuse lets you and three friends team up to face the hordes of enemies together.
Pathless Woods
Pathless Woods reminds me of Valheim, but instead of taking place in a Norse world, it is set in a heavily Asian-themed world.
You will have to gather resources, craft tools, and build settlements if you want to survive in the game’s hostile world.
SpiderHeck
SpiderHeck is a ludicrous physics-based co-op brawler that involves spiders fighting to the death using a range of weapons, like lightsabers and railguns.
Games with ridiculous premises like these never fail to provide hours of belly-aching fun, and you can try out SpiderHeck’s demo to see what I’m on about.
The Last Hero of Nostalgaia
The Last Hero of Nostalgaia’s satirical humour-filled action-adventure gameplay might be the comic relief we all need after an overwhelming day.
Surprisingly, the game is a Souls-like, featuring full character customisation, challenging combat, and dodge-rolls.
No Place for Bravery
No Place for Bravery is a top-down action RPG that features “brutal Sekiro-esque 2D combat”.
Combat revolves primarily around breaking an enemy’s posture and maintaining your own by perfectly timed parries, making for a tough gameplay experience.
Terra Nil
Terra Nil is a city builder that involves bringing a desolate planet back to life from the brink of collapse.
The game promises to deliver a unique experience that is quite the opposite of the post-apocalyptic survival city sims like Frostpunk and Surviving Mars that I tend to enjoy.
