Riot Games sues Moonton over alleged plagiarism

10 May 2022

Yesterday Riot Games filed a lawsuit at the federal court in Los Angeles against ByteDance’s Shanghai Moonton Technology over its new mobile game Mobile Legends: Bang Bang.

Riot Games alleges that the new mobile game blatantly copies its own title, Wild Rift, and used content and promotional materials from the League of Legends franchise.

It added that it has filed this lawsuit because Moonton has continually plagiarised its content since 2015.

In a previous lawsuit focused on the same issue, Moonton stated that Mobile Legends: Band Bang was a wholly independent and self-developed game in a previous lawsuit covering the same issues.

This past case was dismissed as the Court concluded that the case would be better tried in China.
