Geohot now working for Facebook – report

27 June 2011

Everybody has to settle down and find a real job at some point, even world famous hackers like George “Geohot” Hotz, who earlier this year went head-to-head against Sony in court after releasing security keys for the PlayStation 3.

It would appear that the 21 year old is now working for Facebook. According to fellow hacker and jail break extraordinaire,  Joshua “POsixninja” Hill, Hotz turned down a challenge to find a bootrom exploit for the iPad 2 because he is now working for Facebook, and he was apparently quite annoyed by the offer, with Hill stating that Geohot did not want to attract additional media attention following the Sony case.

Then a few days later Gabe Riviera of Techmeme tweeted the following:

Interesting: based on facebook/geohot Geohot works at Facebook now (note Facebook network + friends)

Geohot’s Facebook profile has since been made unavailable.

Geohot was previously quite famous for consistently blogging about his ordeal with Sony on geohotgotsued.blogspot.com. Curiously, he all of a sudden stopped posting on his blog on 28 April.

Rumours suggest that Geohot is working on a new Facebook app for the iPad 2. It’s not hard to imagine that facebook approached Hotz to develop the app for them, given his obvious expertise in the field of digital security, as well as his history of successfully hacking other i-devices.

Geohot famously responded to Sony’s charges in a rap posted on youtube
