Gearbox didn’t get its Wii U devkit until just a few months ago, but it turns out that’s more than enough time to get Colonial Marines up and running on the console – thanks to the flexibility of the Unreal Engine.
“The software, it’s pretty easy to work on, so that makes things a lot easier,” project producer Brian Burleson tells VideoGamer. “When you already have something working, especially on the Unreal Engine, it’s a pretty basic, straightforward port at that point. Unreal makes it easier to do that, for sure.”
While he refused to divulge information about the new Nintendo console’s tech specs, he does suggest it’s more or less on par with the Xbox 360 and PS3.
“The goal is always to make it for all the platforms to be the same,” he says. “It really sucks to have a game be nerfed on one platform, or missing a feature on one platform. So the goal is always to make we’re fully-featured, and that everything is the same experience.”
The game, which has been MIA for the last two years or so, resurfaced around E3 and is scheduled for launch sometime next year.
