Digital Extremes, the developer behind sci-fi shooter Warframe, has announced Soulframe — a new fantasy action-MMORPG game.
Soulframe will be free to play and feature completely different gameplay from its predecessor, as it will be set in a sister universe to Warframe.
The game will be centred around slow and heavy melee combat with a focus on exploration and a hub world that shares similarities with Warframe’s open-world planets.
“Our team is really interested in this idea of nature and humanity colliding, and we’ll be exploring a lot of those themes through our own lens while playing with ideas of restoration and exploration,” said Digital Extremes creative director Geoff Crookes.
“With Soulframe’s worldbuilding and thematic elements, we are really looking to go back to our childhood favourites and pull inspiration from the elaborate fantasy worlds that we fell in love with growing up,” he added.
While the expected release date of Soulframe is still unknown, Digital Extremes noted that a playable version of the game would be made available to fans within a year.
