Helldivers 2 increases its server cap to 700,000

23 February 2024

Arrowhead has raised the concurrent user cap for its Helldivers 2 servers from 450,000 to 700,000 to help players avoid having to wait in lengthy queues.

The raising of the cap was confirmed on X (formerly Twitter) by Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt.

Pilestedt said that they expect that the CCU will reach this new cap but that the increase should make wait times more bearable for players.

He also said that final improvements will be made today for the weekend.

Helldivers 2

Helldivers 2 has become an overnight internet sensation with its Starship Troopers-like setting, brutal combat, and extensive ‘managed democracy’ that inspired hordes of memes.

This is reflected in its concurrent users on Steam, which, as of writing, was at 200,000 players with an all-time peak of 450,000 – which was limited by server capacity.

Helldivers 2 was released on 8 February, so this considerable growth in players is extremely impressive.

The new title is also currently sitting as Steam’s top seller and its sixth most-played game.

If Pilestedt and his team’s expectations are correct and the new 700,000 CCU cap is reached over the weekend, then its position on the charts could rise to second or third.
