Battlefield 3 developer DICE has been punting the various features of their Frostbite 2.0 engine, including the slick infantry animations which we will be encountering throughout the single and multi-player game modes.
As reported by VideoGamer.com, in the latest issue of EDGE Magazine, DICE lead multiplayer designer Lars Gustavsson talks about the differences in animation.
“In multiplayer, we do an additional pass for animation. In single player you don’t mind if a guard up on a balcony does a Hollywood death – stumbling around a bit before falling over,” said Gustavsson.
When asked if DICE doesn’t think people want to see stylish ‘Hollywood’ deaths in multiplayer, Gustavsson said “In multiplayer it needs to be a one-to-one correlation between action and result.”
Gustavsson continued by outlining that DICE is willing to make these concessions and changes where necessary in order to produce the best experience for gamers in both single and multiplayer espects of the game.
“Singleplayer and multiplayer both have their own needs, but in the end I feel it’s utterly important that it feels like the same game. There’s no better way of proving your single player run-and-gun experience than seeing what it feels like against a live human opponent,” said Gustavsson.
