Alleged LulzSec “spokesperson” arrested in the UK, LulzSec claim police were duped

28 July 2011

According to a report over on ZDNet, an alleged LulzSec activist has been arrested by Scotland Yard in the Shetland Islands, just north of Scotland. The 19-year old male has apparently been identified as “Topiary”, the guy behind the @LulzSec Twitter account, although this claim has been subsequently disputed.

In a dramatic twist, according to another report over on Daily Tech, the coppers done nabbed the wrong bloke. The article cites otherwise unverified evidence that “Topiary” is a 23-year old man named Daniel Ackerman Sandberg, who lives in Uppsala, Sweden.

Later, the article reprints a chat log between the presumably real “Topiary” and another anonymous person, suggesting that whoever the 19-year old “Topiary” is, he’s just some kind of unwitting decoy.

He’s also in a lot of trouble right now. Metropolitan Police have confirmed that the arrested suspect is currently in transit to London, where he’ll likely be charged with a long list of offences.
